BIRTH OF HIMACHAL PRADESH

As Chief Commissioner Province on 15th April 1948

Chamba and Sirmour princely states were merged into Himachal Pradesh without alteration of their boundaries.

Mandi and Suket states were clubbed together to form the Mandi District.

Mahasu district was created after merging 26 Princely states, Thankurais and their tributaries.

Four districts were created namely :

1) Chamba
2) Sirmour
3) Mandi

4) Mahasu

Total Area 27018 sq. Km.
Total Population 9,35,000.
